Spondylus Abstract Earrings ~ Last Pair

These unique earrings were handcrafted by a well known Peruvian Artisan in Cusco Peru using the finest 950 Silver and Spondylus Shell. 4cm Length (incl. Hook) , 2cm width. Hallmarked.

In the Inca culture Spondylus is a symbol of abundance and fertility. The shell was also used in funerary rituals and ceremonies to enable good communication with the afterlife, for example, in the central Andes, with records existing from AD 900. Spondylus artefacts and shells were often buried as offering in fields to ensure good harvests.  Spondylus shells were more valuable than gold or even silver.
